This brings the Campaign total to over $40 million for the first half of 2007 and a strong overall lead for Primary funds this year. It was hard to miss the news over the past week about Senator John McCain culminating with the resignation of his National Campaign Director and Chief Consultant today. We are currently reaching out to our friends who are supporters of the Senator’s to see if sometime in the future they may wish to join our Grassroots team. The goal of our effort here in Michigan is to build the strongest Grassroots Network in the nation for Mitt Romney and we welcome all Republicans who are willing to role up their sleeves and work to keep the White House. Our strategy is to stay focused on our Campaign. We have built a very strong organization in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida, and of course here in Michigan. The press today remarked that Romney has the organization, message, and grassroots to be in the catbird seat for this election. We do not take anything for granted and will continue to work until the Polls close. Michigan Update We were recently pleased to announce Dick Posthumous as an Honorary Statewide Chair of the Michigan Romney Campaign. The next Debate is scheduled for August 5th. Stay tuned for more details about debate watching parties. Mitt is the lunch speaker at the Mackinaw Conference which is September 21st – 23rd. We are urging all of our supporters to register and attend the conference this year. We are also looking for dedicated volunteers to take to the island and help us over the weekend. Sign-Up Michigan will be Monday August 6th from 9 AM to 8 PM. We are asking all participants to call through their own contacts with the goal of recruiting 25 new Romney Supporters each. Grassroots Update Currently in Michigan we have: Over 70 Romney County Chairs Over 50% of GOP County Chairs endorsement Over 100 Romney Community Captians Over 100 Romney County Coalition Chairs Over 90 Locally Elected Officials endorsements This is a great start and we currently have the strongest Grassroots Structure of any Candidate in Michigan. We need to continue to grow and we need your support for that. Between now and July 25th we would like each of you to recruit: 1 Local Elected Official 1 Community Captain (we have over 500 Targeted Communities, but want a Captain for EVERY Community in Michigan) 1 Faith and Values Chair (per County) 1 Small Business Chair (per County) Letters to the Editor Program This is a key to increasing the Romney name ID and also carrying Mitt’s message to all voters. We have seen a lack of interest in many local media outlets to cover Presidential events thus far this year, but the letters written to the editor continue to get published and read daily across the Country. We are looking for 2 types of Volunteers for the Letters Program 1. Sample Letter Writers. Each week you will receive a “topic of the week” and be asked to write and submit a sample letter to be distributed. 2. Letter Distribution. Later in the week you will receive all the sample letters and pick one to send in to your local newspaper. If you can help with this important program please let me know at []@mittromney.com.
