Message:I’m Stephen Smith, Director of Online Communications for Romney for President Exploratory Committee.

First of all, I want to thank you for your work promoting Governor Romney and his potential candidacy at Facebook. No other Republican considering running for President in 2008 has anywhere near the level of organic support across the web and I consider that a tremendous resource as we look ahead. We are going to need you and others like you to be fully engaged with our communications and volunteer efforts.

On this Monday, February 5, we’ll be launching an official profile for Governor Romney on Facebook … and we’ll need your help to foster the profile’s rapid growth and viral spread across the Facebook community. With your help, I’m confident that we’ll meet our initial goal of 1,000 members within the first 24 hours. But our efforts aren’t merely focused on building an impressive number of supporters for this online group. Rather, we hope to create a core of volunteers who can assist the campaign online and on the ground as Governor Romney explores a bid for the Presidency.

So, what can you do to get involved today with our team?

• First, send a quick email to info@mittromney.com so I can add you to my Facebook activist distribution list. Please put “Governor Romney and Facebook” in the subject line.
• Second, if your group has other administrators or if you have friends who are particularly enthusiastic about helping Governor Romney through Facebook, go ahead and send me their emails addresses directly (only if you have their permission) or have them email info@mittromney.com (with “Governor Romney and Facebook” in the subject line). The timing of this effort isn’t yet public so don’t post this information widely and don’t simply email everyone you know.
• Third, as soon as the Governor’s Facebook group goes live, I’ll send you the link. You should personally join, “share” the group (so that it shows up on your profile and in your friend’s feeds), and then prominently promote it in the “Description” or “Recent News” section of your pro-Romney group.
• Fourth, you and your fellow administrators should contact all of your personal friends and as many of your group members as you possibly can. In this message, you should include the link to Governor Romney’s profile and ask them to join, to “share” the profile, and then to reach out to their friends in the same way that you have, so that we can keep the chain unbroken.

There are at least 5,000 people at Facebook who’ve demonstrated their support for Governor Romney by joining a pro-Romney group. If all 5,000 join, share, and spread the news through one-on-one messaging, then we can reach all of their friends. And, if the average person has 100 friends on Facebook, then we could spread the word to as many as 500,000 people … which would be a phenomenal achievement … and a great first step towards building the online organization necessary to elect the next President of the United States.

Thanks again and remember that the timing of this effort isn’t yet public so I’d ask you to be discrete.

Remember to join, share, promote it on your group’s page, and then contact all of your personal friends and as many of your group members as you can … so that they can do the same!
