"I am an American running for president, not a Mormon running for president, but I am also very proud of my faith. And I am not a cafeteria Mormon, choosing some parts to accept and reject—I am "true blue, through and through." My family and I are better people and far happier than we would have been without our faith. It is puzzling that when NEWSWEEK looks at me ("A Mormon's Journey: The Making of Mitt Romney," Oct. 8) what you mostly see is a Mormon. I would have thought that more important to my potential presidency would be my record as a governor, 25-year business leader, Olympic CEO, father, husband—and American."

Mormon Mitt Romney Wants Evangelical Vote

One of the most frequently asked questions about the Mormons comes as a result of the candidacy of Mitt Romney, former Gov. of Mass. and Republican candidate for president. Elder Ballard explained that the Church does not get involved in campaigns and does not endorse political candidates.

“So the Church is politically neutral, but we teach our people that it’s our duty to seek out and find good honest men and women of value, with values and virtue and honestly and integrity and encourage them to run for office and then to use their agency to vote for whomever they choose,” he explained.

Are evangelicals, a swath of voters representing between 25 and 30 percent of America, splintering in their frustration with what they perceive as no real “values” choice among the front-running presidential candidates? Are they overreacting in refusing to get behind the squeaky-clean Mormon, Mitt Romney?

Americans who reside outside evangelical circles cannot seem to grasp what the objections to Romney and the Latter-day Saints are all about. Yet, surveys reflect the flat rejection of a Mormon bid for the White House by conservative, Bible-believing Christians.

Evangelical Christians never had it so good, but they seem not to know it. Instead of supporting the candidate who most shares their values -- Mitt Romney -- they seem hell-bent for the proverbial cliff.

The candidacy of Mitt Romney, who ran the Games, for the Republican presidential nomination has also brought the church into the national spotlight.

he beneficiary of the earliest possible caucus date is ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney, whose aides believe that the (shortened) holiday season will freeze the field and prevent any other candidate from surging at the last minute. Romney's allies on the state central committee have been pushing for an early date for months, as soon as it became clear that New Hampshire might set its primary for Jan. 8 or thereabouts

Mitt Romney issued a statement: “The idea that she would be a credible commander in chief of our armed forces requires the willing suspension of disbelief.”

'Frontrunner' Rudy Running 4th in Iowa

For a classic example of the politics of self-interest, you can't beat New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's challenge to the line-item veto. ... This is no disinterested argument over constitutional principles. Giuliani wants his piece of the pie, and doesn't care who gets hurt in the process.

It's official. Rudy Giuliani's cellphone chat with his wife during the middle of a recent speech to the National Rifle Assn. is duly added to our roster of candidate-gaffes-that-linger. It joins John Edwards' infamous $400 haircut.

The Real Rudy: A treasure trove of Giuliani tapes during his tenure as New York mayor may come back to haunt him if he becomes the GOP’s presidential nominee.

Rudy's Flip on the NRA: The only exception may be his criticism of the National Rifle Association. “It really is absolutely astounding that the NRA continues to have influence in areas in which they make no sense at all,' the mayor said in an annoyed tone in 1994 Giuliani's echoing cellphone

Take Two for Thompson's 2008 campaign

All eyes are on Fred Thompson this week as he makes his debate debut at the CNBC/MSNBC/The Wall Street Journal debate on Tuesday from Dearborn, Michigan

Fred Thompson knows nothing about current events, has become a punchline

Fred struggles to articluate, leaves iowans wanting for details

Fred is going nowhere fast (problems with illegal immigration, nepotism, terrorism.....)

Thompson flops and then refuses to speak with press (see video of him driving away)

More bad reviews for Fred, news at 11

Fred supporters tired of general platitudes

Its official, ask a Freds supporter why they support him: because he is least bad candidate (How inspiring!)

Thompson scores only a 5 on the 'God-O-Meter' (Yes, there actually exists such a thing) No wonder the evengelicals ditched him

Thompson's style doesn't match the conservative hype surrounding him

Thompson flip flops on ethanol, the supposed 'anti panderer' panders

Thompson is even lazy when he panders

Another day, another gaffe for the impressive Fred Thompson (Why is he such a great candidate again?) this one is good

Thompson's campaign about nothing

Thompson falls flat at Americans for Prosperity Conference...... again

Fred Thompson Bombs on the campaign trail (this was before the bomb at the americans' for prosperity conference, has to actually ask for applause!)

MUST READ: Open Letter to Fred Thompson

Duh...What Fred Thompson doesn't know:
- That Republicans were in control when he was actually involoved in getting Roberts nominated
- That the the Soviet Union Fell
- Who Terry Schaivo is
- That drilling in the everglades is an important issue to Floridians
- That judges from his home state Tennessee just ruled the death penatly is unconstitutional
- Jena Six, "I don't know anything about it."
- Hurricane property insurance (while campaigning in Florida)
- Social Security reform (one of the top issues on his policy agenda) can remember what Bush's position was
