A Republican organization that advocates gay rights is targeting GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney in an ad campaign, seeking to undercut his support among social conservatives by highlighting his past statements in support of abortion rights

Romney raised $10m this quarter, $45m from 100,000 donors overall

ROMNEY: "Republicans and our philosophy will make the nation stronger and more prosperous and peaceful than would the opposition. I don't think Clinton is aimed in the right direction. I respect her as a thinking person. I'd love to debate her. Look forward to it. But I think our party has the right answers." No personal attack. No mention of past failures. It is a simple expression that he believes his own ideas are stronger.

MUST READ: Open Letter to Fred Thompson

Fred Thompson’s Substantive Quotes of the Week

Fred Thompson Has No Desire to Talk With James Dobson

Thompson exceeds (low) expectations

SPIN: National media is out to get him but local media is more positive

Thompson's team is struggling to raise at least half of the totals that former Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, and John McCain posted in their first quarters

Thompson's lobbying, earned him $750,000 from Equitas (the British insurance company that wants to limit payments to the families of those who died due to asbestos exposure)

After surveying the entire field of Presidential candidates, I made the decision several months ago to give my tentative support to the campaign of Fred Thompson. I believed Thompson to be the most electable candidate whose views aligned most closely with my own.

Now I'm not so certain. His views of the federal marriage amendment, the Schiavo case, and his general position on federalism are troubling. For me, conservatism trumps federalism, while the position Thompson endorses seem to reverse that order.

Evangelicals turn on Thompson

Thompson's folksy candor, which his advisers had thought would be a priceless asset to his late-breaking presidential campaign, instead has sometimes produced a comedy of errors that has forced his long-suffering aides to patiently amplify and correct his vague pronouncements

Dobson (Enormously Influential Evangelical) Says He Won't Support Thompson

Dobson informs friends he won't back Thompson: The founder of Focus on the Family says the GOP presidential hopeful is wrong on issues dear to social conservatives

'Neocon' -- The New L Word

Republicans may soon lose the votes of some economic conservatives. In part, it’s because of the unending war in Iraq and social policies they don’t like, but they might swallow hard and continue to vote Republican anyway if GOP fiscal policies did not mimic the Democrats when it comes to the deficit and spending

Conservative voters must be prepared to support candidates who share their vision of a non-activist, constructionist Court, even if they disagree on some important issues. The alternative — another Clinton presidency — would be disastrous to their cause.

Dr. Dobson (and presumably others) were ready to support Gov. Romney. If that were the case, however, one might think that the leaked news out of the CNP conference might be that social conservatives were ready to rally around Gov. Romney.

After all, the man has, among other things, fought for marriage and the unborn and against stem-cell research. That's not even to mention his adroit understanding of the threat of radical Islam or his pro-growth vision to help America compete better in the global economy.

26% - Romney Jumps Into The Lead In South Carolina, Thompson Loses Ground

Mitt Romney submitted to what he jokingly called "35 minutes of torture." In a wide-ranging talk with NEWSWEEK's Jonathan Darman and Lisa Miller, Romney touched on his family, his religion, his management style—and, excerpted here, Iraq and the distinction he draws between his own leadership style and that of the current president

NEWSWEEK's HIT on MITT: Mitt's Mission, Voters can't connect with a candidate they feel they don't know. Mitt Romney has to decide how much he wants to share.

Who is Mitt Romney: the early state GOP frontrunner is the Newsweek cover boy. The article is not flattering

The reporter assumes that Romney has a problem. If reporters weren't so arrogant, they might realize that they are the ones having problems. They are the ones that should be embarrassed for asking him questions that no other candidate has to answer. They should be the ones that realize that Romney's specific religious beliefs have little to do with what kind of president he will be.

They don't need to explain their conclusion, this is journalism! I want some data. Journalist just make crud up. Like saying that Romney has downplayed his family. What other candidate has spoken more about their family?
